Using Grail

The steps for buying privately and for launching a token, with how long each one takes.

Buy and sell privately

Connect a wallet. This wallet pays for your deposit. It does not sign your private trades.

Create your private balance. Choose a password. Your browser creates a private wallet with its own 12-word recovery phrase.

Save the recovery phrase. Write it down and confirm two of its words. It is the only way to recover your funds on another device or after a forgotten password.

Deposit ETH. You can do this right away, even while first-time setup is still running.

Wait for the standby period. It takes about an hour on mainnet. You can close the tab, because it does not depend on your browser.

Trade. Open a token and choose private. Your browser builds a proof, Grail's broadcaster sends the transaction, and the tokens arrive in your private balance.

Withdraw when you want. Send ETH or tokens to any address. Use a fresh address, because withdrawing to the wallet you deposited from links the two.

Launch a token

Fill in the form. Name, ticker, image, description and links. The wallet you launch from is the default fee recipient, and you can name another. It can never be changed afterwards.

Choose optional buys. A first buy happens in the launch transaction and is public. A private buy comes from your private balance and lands right after the launch.

Sign. You pay the launch fee of 0.002 ETH plus gas. The token, its pool and its locked liquidity are created in one transaction.

Earn. Your share of the pool fee, about 0.58% of volume, can be collected from the Rewards page at any time. It is paid in WETH and in your token.

Common questions

Can I close the tab during setup?

Setup pauses when the tab is closed and continues when you come back. If you return after more than about three hours, the download starts again, because the server keeps three hourly copies.

Why do I see the balance in another tab?

Only one tab can run the private engine. A second tab says so, can still deposit, and takes over when the first closes.

I forgot my password.

Restore from your recovery phrase and choose a new password. The password only protects the copy of the phrase in this browser.

I lost my recovery phrase.

While the wallet still opens with your password, you can reveal the phrase or move to a new wallet. If you lose both the phrase and this browser's copy, nobody can recover the funds. Grail never has them.

Which devices work?

Desktop browsers are tested. Phones and low-end machines are not, and the private balance needs about 1 GB of free disk space.
